calling all angels.

Режисьор ще бъде Мик Гарис, а сценарист - Matt Venne /"White Noise 2" (2007), "Pelts" (Masters of Horror) и "Spooked" (Fear Itself)/.
"Bag of Bones is something we tried to do as a feature for two or three years," Garris told them. "But the way features are now, if it's not about teenagers or a sequel or a remake, forget it. We wanted to do something much more adult and passionate than studios are making now. It's a ghost story for grown-ups. Television is the only place you can do that."

In early 2009, it was announced that Warner Bros was developing a big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s novel IT. They hired screenwriter Dave Kajganich , who wrote the initial drafts of The Invasion, to pen the screenplay adaptation. We haven’t heard much about the project since. But now we have an update, after the jump.

When I was younger, I read a lot of Stephen King books. Over the years, Hollywood has turned a lot of King’s library of work into crappy horror adaptations — The Shining and Carrie might be the two exceptions. For a writer known primarily as a horror novelist, it’s surprising that the movie adaptations of his non-horror stories, like Green Mile, Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption, are probably better known, and definitely more revered. But if you asked me when I was 11-years old, what my favorite Stephen King movie was, I would quickly tell you — the 1990 television miniseries adaptation of It. It scared me, kept me up, and I loved it. I remember rewatching the VHS copy that I had recorded off of cable, over and over again.

My biggest concern of a big screen adaptation is that I’m not sure that the property could be cut down to fit into the standard 90 or 100-minute movie. The paperback is 1,104 pages, and the miniseries clocked in at 192 minutes (over 3 hours). And if the idea of a 100 minute movie worries me. I haven’t seen It in years, and I’m sure its one of those films that doesn’t live up to my childhood memories. Could It benefit from a redo? Probably. But as a 120-minute feature film?

When I heard Warner Bros. was going to give the novel a go theatrically, I went after the job hard. I knew the studio was committed to adapting IT as a single film, so I went back and reread the novel to see if I thought this was even possible, and to try to find a structure that would accommodate such a large number of characters in two different time periods, around 120 pages, which was another of the studio’s stipulations. Had I not worked with the producers before, I might have been more tentative about trying to pull off such a massive undertaking, but I’d worked with Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and Doug Davison on our original version of The Invasion, and I knew they would fight for good storytelling, and would also give me the time I needed to work out a solid first draft, which they did. They really went to bat for that. We’ve done some tinkering with it and I am just about to turn that draft in to the studio, so we’ll soon know a lot more. In all of my talks with the studio, it has only ever been discussed as a single feature film. The book’s length is clearly more suited to a mini-series—and I understand very well why they went that route the last time around—but I think the book’s content is really more appropriate for cinema. I told the studio from the beginning that I felt I needed to be able to write for an R rating, since I wanted to be as candid as the novel about the terrible things the characters go through as kids. They agreed and off I went. … I think the biggest difference [between the big screen adaptation and the miniseries] is that we’re working with about two-thirds the onscreen time they had for the miniseries. That sounds dire, I know, but it doesn’t necessarily mean two-thirds the amount of story. I’m finding as many ways as I can to make certain scenes redundant by deepening and doubling others. To me, this is an interesting process because it has the effect of thematically intensifying the whole, but it can lead to dramatic surprises. Certain scenes I thought would be crucial to the coherence of the whole ended up cut, while other scenes, which were somewhat cursory in the book, ended up being pivotal in the script. I know I’m being vague, but there’s not a lot I can tell you at this point about the specifics, since we’re still very much in development on it. I’ll just say for now that we’re really swinging for the fences.

And while Kajganich doesn’t know if or when the project will go into production, he says that he’s “been told the project is a priority for Warner Bros. and the plan is to go big with it, so I assume it will be as soon as possible.”

A call for cast and crew made today landed on our radar and involves a film prepping to shoot in Maine this August.
Monroe Mann, of Unstoppable Artists, is looking for key players in a "story centers around Stephen King. No more can be said about the story at this time except that it is unique, with a concept that everyone seems to like and a fun twist ending," says the announcement. Mann breaks down what he's looking for (right down to the cup size on his actresses?!) at the Rhode Island Film Collaborative site.
So, with scant details to go on, what can we expect from the film? Something akin to George Lucas in Love? Full of in-jokes that puts the author front and center as the main character? Or perhaps something in the vein of Necronomincon, which found H.P. Lovecraft up against, well, Lovecraftian evil?

http://shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=15324" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Bangor native Stephen King spends part of the summer at a home on Kezar Lake. So it's the perfect setting for Monroe Mann's movie.
Mann, who grew up on the lake, is the writer/producer of a movie that draws its inspiration from King's novels.
"It's a story about a lot of people getting killed -- murdered -- in the same way that Stephen King's characters die in his books," Mann explains.
Mann says he ran into King at the local market, and talked to him about the film. "I said 'Hey, did you know there's a movie being made about you here in town?' And he said 'I do.' And I said 'What do you think about that?' And he said 'I'm not too happy but there's not much I can do about it.' ".
Mann says he believes King and his fans will understand that the movie is meant as a tribute to the author's work.
"We named the town in the film Incomia and incomia means 'a sincere tribute to a great person' and that's what we hope this film will ultimately be," Mann says.
The film does not yet have a title. Mann hopes to see it released sometime next year.

Children of the Corn 8:
Miramax/Dimension have revealed their plans for Children of the Corn 8. Joe Harris ("Darkness Falls") is involved and Michael Grady is playing executive on.

Joe Harris is involved with the latest movie in the Children of the Corn saga. Here is what he sais on Joe's Movies & Comics Backwash:
"I'm involved with the new Children of the Corn sequel (for Dimension), but I'm keeping the exact details under wraps for a little bit. I've got a lot of new projects up and running since Darkness Falls opened", he says. "I'm going to make a dedicated, valliant attempt [to save the series]". He adds, "Rest assured, the spirit of the first film and the original King story will be there. I want to make scary movies. The kind we don't see anymore."

The Talented “Tooth Fairy” himself, Harris has been talking on his official site again about the next “Children of the Corn” installment, which he’s attached to. “I'm not able to answer anything specifically just yet, but we're not going to be dredging up the past any more than we have to. COTC: Whatever (it's not named yet and typing the number '8' makes my head hurt) will maintain the spirit of the original film and the Stephen King novella. It will be scary with hardcore thrills and disturbing deaths with elements you'll recognize as signatures of the franchise (chases through cornfields, deaths by sickles, teenage sex, sacrifices and the triumphant return of He Who Walks Behind the Rows included). It will take place in Gatlin and will draw on the history of that town as we know it”, says Harris. “There's a lot of enthusiasm building behind this project. Stay tuned. I wouldn't have it any other way.”
Seems fans of the series want to know whether this new instalment will have anything to do with the previous 7 films. “No one needs to have seen any of the previous movies to know what's going on at all. That's how it should be when you're trying to re-jack the franchise. But if you are familiar with the original movie (and story), you'll probably feel rewarded”.
And when can we expect it? “I'm currently working on the script, getting the second draft into shape. We won't be shooting for a while. I'll keep you posted.”

"Darkness Falls scribe Joe Harris told us there's little movement on his Children of the Corn sequel, but that he's got some great ideas for it. "I've written the next installment of The Children of the Corn franchise for Dimension, I've also been working on a slew of new horror and comic book-based movie projects that will cause a lot of my friends, fans and even enemies to raise an eyebrow". So what's the idea for "Corn 8"? "Make it scary again. The original concept and story in Stephen King's novella (which really did come across in the first film) is creepy as hell: children killing adults, for the glory of God (such as it is). I think kids are scary. They shouldn't be but they are, to adults. I want to get back to that exhilarating fear of being chased through the cornfields by scythe-wielding children. I want to bring out these children's inner 'Lord of the Flies' and get away from the neo-Amish vibe they give off. My children hunt in packs and pile on once they bring down their prey. They don't stop tabbing, ripping and tearing until you're dead. Then they feed you to the Corn God. This stuff should make you go, "Holy ****ing ****!" It will, if I have my way."

Moviehole.net reports that the beautiful Barbara Nedeljakova, best known for her role as the sadistic seductress Natalya in Hostel (and briefly Hostel: Part II), will star in Children of the Corn: The Dweller, the latest in the franchise first reported on here. The latest in the perpetual Corn series is written and directed by the talented Joel Soisson (Pulse). Shooting this month, "Dweller" fixes on a family whose car overheats, rendering them stuck in the middle of nowhere. They come across a couple - with a weird kid - who take them in. Nedeljakova has also appeared in the films Doom and Shanghai Knights.

Children of the Corn 8: The Dweller:
Following up on yesterday's news about Hostel honey Barbara Nedeljakova joining the cast of Joel Soisson's Children of the Corn: The Dweller, some more names have been added to the growing list of folks who will be walking behind the rows.
According to our brothers at Movie Hole, Billy Drago (The Untouchables, The Hills Have Eyes), Kelen Coleman (Fired Up!) and Tim Rock (FlashForward) have all signed on for active horror duty! Coleman and Rock play the couple who fall under the thrall of Drago and Nedejakova's characters - and their 'Corn' kid.

Synopsis
Tim and Allie are heading out of LA and into the very warm California desert environs to see Tim's father. The car overheats, and they are forced to stay overnight at the home of a questionable couple and their young child...
Directed by Joel Soisson, this latest edition is titled "The Dweller" and stars Barbara Nedeljakova, Billy Drago, Kelen Coleman and Tim Rock. Here's the catchy synopsis: "On a trip to California, a family's car overheats leaving them stranded in the home of a creepy couple and their kid."

Last night, as part of the TimesTalks series at New York City’s TimesCenter, director Guillermo del Toro revealed that he would like to adapt Stephen King’s It and Pet Semetary in the future. The Hellboy director has a lot of projects lined up, including producing Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and working on his adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness, it may be a long time before he gets to King’s works, if ever.

BUICK 8 seems to have hit a roadblock. It’s a bit too different from the teen horror sequels and remakes that have littered our cineplexes for a while, so it will be a while before we’re able to get that off the ground. But when we do, Tobe Hooper is attached to direct.
But BAG OF BONES looks like it’s finally going to happen, as a four-hour miniseries for television. It’s got a great script by Matt Venne; it’s Matt’s favorite book, and it shows. Again, a very emotional, passionate ghost story, which these days, would not get made as a feature. We tried for three years.
